Why hire a personal trainer? How well do you think a sports team would perform without a coach? A trainer serves as your coach to motivate and guide you toward developing good habits related to fitness and nutrition. More often than not people need guidance and clear direction when attempting to develop new habits that will become a regular part of their lifestyle. Some people surround themselves with a support team of doctors, financial advisors, clergy, home assistants and more. A trainer will be a valued member of that life team insuring you keep your physical health and well being in check.
Why is training so expensive? Why isn't it even more expensive!? Doctors spend 5 minutes with you during an office visit. Personal trainers spend an hour with you and give you personalized attention while typically making a fraction of a doctor's salary! How much is your health worth to you? Sometimes people can't justify spending money on preventative measures, such as exercise, when it comes to their health. However when you are healthy and fit, medical bills may drop, sick days are reduced and you are more energetic and productive. Those things translate directly to a positive impact on your bottom line - both personally and financially.
Why don't you offer discount packages? When you have to see your doctor or any other professional multiple times, does he or she offer you a discount? We are trained professionals and we give you the same quality service and 100% of our attention each and every time you walk through the door. And our service doesn't stop there. As mentioned above, we become part of your life team where we are in constant contact with you via e-mails, phone conversations or any other way we can make a positive impact on your life. If private training doesn't fit your budget we do offer several different options Services that may better fit your needs.
How many sessions per week are necessary? How long will I have to stay with a trainer? Three is generally a good number but people will range from 2-4 sessions per week with a trainer. It really depends on what you are available to do and how quickly you want to see changes. Remember at the end of the day it is a net loss of energy that creates weight loss. If you do some sort of exercise 3-5 days per week, and eat supportively you will see results.
Although we want you to be able to "graduate" from personal training and transition into working out on your own, some people have been with us for years. Not only because they love us, their workouts and have had great results, but generally because they are busy people, with other areas of their lives that require their attention. Hence they leave it up to us as professionals to customize their program for them.
Will my Trainer put me on a diet? Make me stop smoking or drinking? We don’t believe in diets but we do believe in supportive eating. We are realists and understand “life happens,” but we are also fully aware that in order to change an unhealthy lifestyle and make physical changes it requires work. You will find that many Personal Trainers can give you nutritional and lifestyle advice but what you do with that advice dictates what you achieve. There are 168 hours in a week and we only get to see you 2, 3 or maybe 4 of those, so we can't always be there to monitor you. However, as we begin to change your habits and as you begin to feel and see changes, you will become more self disciplined and the better you will treat your body.
Do you travel outside of Newport? Yes, we do travel outside of Newport, but it depends upon our availability to meet your schedule. The fee is calculated by the travel time involved. If you would like to create workout "parties" with a small group of friends, we can do that in your home also. But feel free to bring us to the Caribbean with you on your vacation, we love outdoor workouts. :)
I want to workout at home, but I don't have any equipment. Will I be able to accomplish anything? Yes, Of course! However it is always better to have access to quality equipment and it depends upon your current physical condition and goals. A lot can be achieved without any equipment. Also there is a range of excellent in-home fitness equipment we sell, including resistance bands, heart rate monitors, dumbbells, balls and other easily stored and relatively inexpensive, yet effective items. You must remember, the most important ingredients needed to change your body is desire, motivation, hard work and commitment. If you have these, the rest will fall into place.
What if I cancel a session? We do have policies we go over with you during your initial consultation but once you have scheduled a session, you must cancel the session more than 24 hours in advance or you are responsible to pay the trainer fully for that session. We can sometimes reschedule for another time during that same week if our schedules allow it, but realize our time is just as valuable as yours.
What happens if I am late for a session? The trainer is not obligated to make up time due to a client's lateness. More than 15 minutes late constitutes a late cancellation and the trainer is not obligated to conduct the session. In some cases a trainer will wait and work with you for the remaining time. This is solely up to their discretion. In either case you will be charged fully for the session. In all fairness, if our trainer is late for your session, your session is free.
I have done everything, but I still can't lose weight. Is there anything you can do for me? Losing body fat effectively is the result of combining supportive nutrition, moderate amounts of aerobic exercise and having respect for muscle through resistance exercise. We usually find that when you think you are doing "everything," one or more elements specified above is either not being carried out correctly or is not being carried out at all.
Sometimes people will try a variety of fad diets (we hate those) one after the other for short periods of time and then give up. Or they may get on the treadmill at the gym for 15 minutes, two times a week, and wonder why they can't lose fat. Body fat reduction or "getting lean" is the single most requested goal of clients who come to us. We will work with you on an effective nutrition and fat-burning exercise program. All we can ask from you is that you are relentless in your pursuit and give us 100% when you are with us and away from us. We will teach you how to get over the hurdles and around the obstacles that seem to prevent you from achieving your goals.
After I start working with a trainer when will I begin to see results? This is an impossible question to answer without knowing your present condition and training history. There are many variables including your specific starting point, genetics, and metabolism as well as your consistency, commitment and time you are willing to put into training. Your results depend on what you put into your training and nutrition.
We can also set up programs that are aimed to work very quickly, but involve exceedingly stringent dieting and training. Generally we like to suggest that, if you are starting from a very low level of fitness, you take it slower at the beginning so you can ease your body gradually into a training program to limit any possibility of injury. We want you to be fit and fabulous for your lifetime. Think the tortoise, not the hare.
With that said, if you are consistent with workouts and follow the supportive eating recommendations we provide, you should typically see noticeable physical changes in 4-6 weeks.
